We had lunch in the Jewish quarter on rue des Rosiers. It was an old Jewish bakery called Sacha Finkelsztajn, which was pretty popular, though small. We had a spinach and capsicum borek (€5.80), salmon piroshky (€3.80) and an eggplant piroshky (€3.80). In hindsight, the borek was expensive but at least it was nice and there was a lot of filling. Mum also bought a small challah for €1.10 to have as part of breakfast tomorrow. [gallery columns="2" link="file" type="rectangular" ids="5460,5461,5462,5463,5464,5470"]...

There wasn’t any more space in the upper seating area so we were led downstairs to the kitchen level. It was dark and a bit weird because the atmosphere was almost like we were sitting awkwardly in a home kitchen. My heart fell a little when I saw the special pho cost €14. We ordered one special beef pho and one special chicken pho. There was also a regular beef pho available for €10, but doesn’t come with the beef bones. The pho was presented in two bowls:...

The tables along the side we were seated at were very close together and had to be pulled out in order for people to sit down along the wall. There wasn’t any English menu, but the waiter was able to translate for us. He did seem distracted though. It was a...

I had confit duck with salad and fried potatoes (€16.90), which were basically thick, flat potato chips. Mum and dad both had different specials of the day – tagliatelle with seafood for mum (€16.90), and slow cooked pork with mashed potato for dad (€15.90). My duck was really tasty and most of the skin was crispy. Mum’s came with a very generous amount of seafood - about half of it was full of baby octopus, prawns and squid. We were all pretty pleased with our meal and the...

As part of the entertainment package we bought there was a voucher for a set meal from Café Siam, a Thai restaurant. There was a choice of a chicken skewer (worth 98MOP), pad thai (worth 70+MOP), papaya salad and something else. The choice for drinks was Sprite, Coke or Tsing Tao Beer. Everyone chose the chicken skewer except A2 who picked pad thai. The pad thai came in an omelette and it wasn’t sour at all. There was lime provided, but it was less than half of a...
