Hoho's Canteen is a new-ish store located within the Melbourne University Parkville campus, next to Pronto's Pizza in the Union House building. [caption id="attachment_5581" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Quinoa and purple cabbage; chickpeas, broccolli, spinach; mixed grain, sunflower seed and almond salad[/caption] Its offerings include a daily soup, two types of pasta, coffee as well as a vegan lunchbox ($9). Today's salads were quinoa and purple cabbage, potatoes, chickpeas broccolli and spinach and a mixed grain, sunflower seed and almond salad. The grains I was able to identify were lentils and possibly...

I returned to try out another of their noodle dishes: Rice Noodles w. Tofu Pudding, Peanut Pieces, Beef Mince, Pickled Chinese Cabbage and Special Chili Sauce ($10). Again, there was a huge serve of the smooth noodles but this time I couldn't finish it. The tofu pudding is apparently similar to that found in tofu fa. It was smooth and softer than regular tofu, but firm enough to pick up with chopsticks relatively easily. There was barely any beef mince. The first thing I tasted was the chilli sauce....

This morning I had one lecture before a 5 hour break, so I decided to drive in for the morning lecture. Since I had the car I thought it'd be a good opportunity to try Twenty & Six Espresso, which is a bit out of the way to walk or get there via public transport. Today I opted for the light option of a chicken salad (Grilled Chicken, Lettuce, Tomato, Olives, Cucumber, Red Onions, Balsamic Vinegar and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, $19.90). The salad tasted OK but the chicken breast was overdone. It was expensive for what it was, but I've come to expect that from salads. This is the second restaurant added to my list of to-try's from The Age's "Don't stop at the dumplings" article and being only 2 minutes walk away from uni, I don't really have any excuse not to go. [gallery type="rectangular" ids="5520,5521,3460,3461"] Today I had the Cross-Bridge Noodles ($12), which was a large bowl of very hot soup, served with raw quail egg, fish, chicken, two types of ham,   chicken, assorted veggies and warm, pre-cooked noodles. The idea is to add all these ingredients into the soup (in that order)...
