I managed to score a free burger through the Grill'd Meatwave promotion. Out of the selection of burgers offered through the deal I picked the Simon Says, which contains grilled chicken breast, avocado, crispy trim bacon, salad, relish & herbed mayo. It was a pretty good burger; tasty and not too dry, but I have to say I still like the Baa Baa burger the best. Special birthday celebrations are good cause for visiting quality restaurants, so we booked a table for the newly re-opened No. 8, now under the helm of John Lawson. This time we did something unusual and ordered an entree each on top of the mains. Entrees:- Tea smoked Goulburn River trout, pickled cucumber, lemon and rye bread ($21) - Wagyu beef carpaccio, anchovy, caper and popped amaranth ($24) - Portland black and blue tuna, black garlic, yuzu jam and aged soy ($22) - Portarlington mussels served with potato bread ($20) Mains: Me - Today's local fish...

I've heard so much about Lentil As Anything, and I don't live too far away so I'm not sure why I haven't come earlier. There isn't any rule on when to deposit the pay-as-you-feel payment; some people paid before they'd eaten. With the payment system there's a huge reliance on honesty and fairness and I would hope the majority of people would pay appropriately though, unfortunately, I'm sure there are a few who do not. Remember it's going towards a good cause! It's quite a big space with both seating...

Brunch consisted of: appetisers of beef and/or chicken satay skewers, fruit and herbed prawn with a mixed fennel and tomato salad. Mains were a choice of Tubot Meuniere (signature dish by Amandine Chaignot, with mashed carrot and vanilla coconut kaffir lime sauce), Stuffed Beef w. Porcini Mushrooms (signature dish by Michel Quaissac, with roasted potatoes, sautéed porcini mushrooms, baby tomato and mushroom sauce), Seared Chicken Breast (filled with mozzarella and spinach, served with herb potato ratte, roasted root veggies and mushroom sauce) and Lamb Briyani. Mum had the...

Appetisers were satay (this time the veggie sticks came with ketupak) and wasabi prawn and grilled scallops with papaya salsa and salad. The prawn was quite nice. The scallops were pretty brown and for a moment I forgot that the appetiser included scallops and thought it was some sort of potato or bread. Mains were: Braised lamb shank in coriander tomato jus (signature dish by Zubir Zain. With Mediterranean veggies, eggplant mille feuille, buttered cheese tortellini and lemon gremolata); Chicken rendang; Stir-fried prawn with dry chili w. rice,...
