Occupying a cosy little building in South Melbourne, Kuu is a Japanese café open for breakfast right through to dinner. The menu largely revolves around healthy, balanced food, but popular not-so-healthy things like katsu and karaage are also served. Matcha affogato came with an intense matcha syrup to pour over the vanilla ice cream rather than the traditional coffee, and...

A visit to a café in South Melbourne was followed by a drop-in to Agathe Patisserie at the South Melbourne markets, and the enticing smell of butter filled the car on the way home. [caption id="attachment_11908" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Plain Croissant ($5)[/caption] We bought two croissants that day. I was hoping for a pandan croissant, but there weren’t any available on our visit. The plain croissant had a good, crispy and flaky shell, and the airy, spiraling interior was tender, stretchy and moist, not doughy. The rich fragrance of butter was...

Coming from the team behind Veggie Bar, Transformer sparked much interest with its upper-end vegetarian offerings. High ceilings carried over from its warehouse shell, spot lighting, splashes of greenery and projected images and videos on walls create a sense of grungy cool. We visit Lord Cardigan to enjoy a leisurely lunch on a lovely spring day. It’s a quaint part of Port Melbourne where there are street shops aplenty and locals going about their daily business. Freshly baked bread and a dish of olive oil graces the table as we enjoy the sunshine and the sound of children playing at the school nearby. Burger lovers and freakshake chasers rejoice; there's another cafe serving up your favourite poison. The name of Three One 2 One is a bit cryptic until you realise it's named after the postcode of its resident suburb. The menu has been refreshed, and dinner service is now live, with the night time menu focusing on burgers and milkshakes to gorge ourselves upon.
