As the casual sibling of George Caloumbaris’ empire, Jimmy Grants provides a bit of fun, bringing fresh ingredients without all the greasiness. Pita bread is wrapped around a range of different proteins, from rotisserie chicken and 12-hour slow cooked lamb, to the beef short rib found in The Americano (my fave)....

It's always exciting to explore new cuisines, especially when they involve discovering something new to eat for breakfast. Started up by Diego Reyes, Cento Mani was born out of a desire to bring an authentic Colombian experience to Melbourne. Cento Mani serves up breakfast and lunch, and a different menu on weekends. Filled arepas make an appearance and sandwiches during the week, and Saturdays and Sundays sees a few more traditional Colombian additions....

Eyal Shani's world-famous Israeli street food canteen has opened its sixth outlet in Melbourne. It's loud and lively with all the music, sounds from the open kitchen, and staff calling out orders. It's very casual, and people are free to stand around or take a seat on the wooden bleachers while waiting for, or eating their order....

Marcel Nantharath and Aline Viravouth (NL House in Carlton) have opened another Malaysian restaurant in Northcote. Merah means 'red' in Malay, and also the colour of sambal - the chilli condiment that's a staple in Malaysian cuisine. Merah produces their three types of sambal in-house - the traditional sambal comes from a four-generation old recipe....
