I came really early today and it's a weekday during school/uni semester so there wasn't any queue. The dish I was hoping to try was the croque madame (smoked salmon, gruyere, horseradish creme fraiche and fried duck egg), but it didn't appear on the menu. Apparently they changed their menu last week so I came too late. Hoho's Canteen is a new-ish store located within the Melbourne University Parkville campus, next to Pronto's Pizza in the Union House building. Maha is a funky and modern space with a semi-open kitchen. It was quite popular today; soon after I entered at 12pm, it was filled with a large group of Telstra workers and shortly afterwards, a group of Western Bulldogs staff. Today I came to try the express lunch bar menu (available weekdays). I settled on the $15 option, which was the maha signature 12 hour roasted lamb and a glass of wine. I returned to try out another of their noodle dishes: Rice Noodles w. Tofu Pudding, Peanut Pieces, Beef Mince, Pickled Chinese Cabbage and Special Chili Sauce ($10). Again, there was a huge serve of the smooth noodles but this time I couldn't finish it. The tofu pudding is apparently similar to that found in tofu fa. It was smooth and softer than regular tofu, but firm enough to pick up with chopsticks relatively easily. There was barely any beef mince. The first thing I tasted was the chilli sauce....

My uni friends found out about my birthday so we headed off to Meshiya for a belated birthday celebration. As much as I like oyakodon, some photos on circluating around the internet showed it to not be as runny as I liked.
