Udon Yasan - Free Toppings Station

Free Toppings Station

Udon Yasan is set out a like a canteen, and works similarly to Rice Workshop – all self-service. At the beginning of the line, you tell the staff which serving size and which soup/dip variety you’d like, then after receiving your udon you pick up tempura, sukiyaki beef, kitsune, ontama (soft-boiled) eggs etc, then pay for the total at the end of the counter. After paying there’s a free toppings station with things like seaweed, tempura bits, bonito flakes, sesame seeds, spring onion, ginger and daikon.

We choose hot soup and dipping versions of the udon, both of which I enjoy. We did find the texture of the udon slightly disappointing as it was not as smooth or chewy as other versions we’ve had previously, but at that price we couldn’t complain much, and the flavour of the hot soup made up for it. Udon Yasan is a place I’d keep in mind if I were in need of a cheap udon fix!
