Twee’s Hut Vietnamese Favourites, Melbourne CBD

I was invited to have lunch at Twee’s Hut Vietnamese Favourites, which has an emphasis on fresh and healthy dishes from various regions of Vietnam. Much of their menu is taken from family recipes, including the aptly names ‘Papa Pho’. Also on the menu are rice paper rolls, banh mi, bun, bun bo hue, springrolls and freshly squeezed fruit and veggie juice. Also on the menu is Twee’s Soul Bowl, which was described as being somewhat similar to pad thai. The restaurant is owned and run by the husband and wife team, Ricky and Twee, who work on the floor and in the kitchen. Service was friendly and attentive, with staff happily offering to walk first-timers through the menu.

For lunch today I chose Mama’s Spicy Noodles (bun bo hue), which is a rice noodle soup with slices of tender beef, sausage, onion and salad. This dish originates from the central region of Vietnam. It was recommended to be eaten with some of the chilli mixture that was provided on the table – chilli flakes were mixed together with shallots, roasted garlic and some other seasonings, and it did indeed go very nicely with the bun bo hue. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish, particularly the flavoursome and clean-tasting soup. I also tried a pork and prawn rice paper roll with Twee’s special peanut hoisin sauce. I liked the balance of ingredients in the rice paper roll, which wasn’t overloaded with vermicelli and had a nice amount of proteins and lettuce. Apparently the crackling roast pork with avocado is the most popular of the rice paper roll varieties here.

Twee’s Hut also do takeaway (including pho), with the freshly assembled banh mi appearing to be quite popular with the takeaway lunch crowd.

Disclaimer: I was invited to dine at Twee’s Hut as a guest, however, opinions expressed here are purely my own and not influenced by the restaurant in any way.
