Melbourne has been chosen as the seventh location for Mercedes Me. Even if you aren’t into cars, the store offers an innovative cafe menu courtesy of ST ALi. Other Mercedes Me stores in Munich, Moscow, Hamburg, Beijing, Tokyo and Hong Kong are each focused around a theme unique to that city, so for Melbourne, Mercedes chose its strong café culture. It’s built more around the experience, and the brand’s history and technology rather than focusing on sales. There are interactive displays and an upstairs lounge and mini Mercedes archive.

A breakfast degustation allows us to taste smaller portions of the dishes. There are a few versions of cafe classic like avocado toast, with Vegemite and coffee BBQ sauce on caramelised brioche. Canapes of Chicken & Waffle (chicken liver pate and confit blood orange on a wholemeal and spelt waffle) and the flavoursome Black Magic (crispy blood cake, truffle egg and chlorophyll dressing on toast) prepare our tastebuds for what’s to come.

Braised Greens with chlorophyll sounds a bit out there, but it is actually quite a tasty with all its salt and spice. The greens are soft but there’s crunch from the milk toast to balance it. Another highlight that’s perfect for the warmer months is the Mango & Granola. Both fresh and lightly cooked mango is matched up with granola toasted with agave and coconut charcoal, and a refreshing frozen orange blossom yoghurt.

ST ALi offers quite a few unique items from their new location. Having a new model on display every few weeks means that car enthusiasts will have something to feast their eyes on too.
