Snow Pony, Balwyn

Learning from our experiences at other brunch places on Saturdays, K and I decided to catch up at Snow Pony at around 10am. We were able to find a table for two quite easily, though it did start to get quite busy towards the end of our visit.

The eatery was actually much bigger than I imagined. As well as indoors seating, there was a little room tucked between the kitchen and the main dining area and also tables set up along the side of the building (next to the kitchen) and some out the back. These ‘outside tables’ were still covered, a bit like an enclosed pergola.

I chose the Smashed Avocado w. Thyme Buttered Mushrooms, Marinated Feta and Torn Basil On Wholegrain Toast w. Poached Egg ($19.9) and K settled on the Breakfast Burrito w. Avocado, Corn, Chorizo and Beans ($15.9). I didn’t try the burrito apart from the tortilla, which was nice and soft. The serving size of my dish was larger than I expected. The multi-grain toasted bread was good, though most of it was a bit soggy (not sure what from), and I was delighted to cut into the runny poached egg. The mushrooms were balanced well with the thyme, which wasn’t too overpowering, and the acidity from the lemon juice and feta helped cut through the heaviness of the avocado. The torn basil also added some interest to the flavours without overwhelming them and I thought it was a nice touch.
