Saint James, Malvern Take 2

Saint James

Nearly a year on from opening, Saint James maintains the same philosophy: to create a British-inspired menu using as much of their ingredients as possible, to reduce wastage.

I’m feeling hungry after a gym session and am longing for something hearty. The Brown Ale Braised Beef Brisket seems to fit the bill. The flavoursome brisket has been pulled apart, and although the flatbread is a bit dry, there’s an interesting mixture of ingredients including chickpeas, kale, roast cauliflower, pomegranate, and chilli.

One dish that I’ve been wanting to try for a long time is their Fish Finger Butty. Essentially a fish finger sandwich, it comes with succulent crumbed fish fingers, crushed peas, and a dill and cabbage salad between thick and fluffy white bread. There’s plenty of fish inside, so you won’t leave feeling empty, and the dill gives the sandwich an extra bit of freshness.

Strawberries and Cream Pikelets are decorated with vanilla creme fraiche, meringue gems, fresh strawberries, and a coffee and chocolate soil. The pikelets are fluffy, and there’s a good balance between the sweet berries and chocolate elements. I particularly enjoy the coffee flavour, and the slight crunch from the soil – I wish there was more of it!

It’s always interesting visiting Saint James to get a taste of Brit-inspired brunch fare. I’m looking forward to seeing the new dishes that will come next season.
