RAMBLR only opened in late 2016, but it’s already undergone a renovation and a slight change in direction. The interior is now dark and mysterious (including its entrance, which we walked past a few times), and the concept is casual fine dining.

There’s plenty of charcoal cooking on show, and a largely Asian presence on the menu. The Raw Kingfish was a nice, light way to start proceedings, followed by the Calamari ‘Noodles’, which may look tame but pack plenty of punch on the flavour front. The Sticky Eggplant exhibited plenty of flavour – it’s always great to see vegetables done well. Crab and roe made for a decadent pasta dish, and Korean-style poussin was juicy and tender. We finished with the Pear Tarte Tatin, which was rich and featured plenty of caramelised pastry, tying up our dinner quite neatly.
