Ora Cafe, Kew Take 2

Ora is still as popular as ever, especially now that it’s been voted Melbourne’s best food cafe of 2014 by the Good Cafe Guide. I didn’t realise it’s been a year since I last visited, so it was interesting to see the new Spring menu.

I opted for the spiced tiffin eggs. I haven’t had scotch eggs before (and I still find the concept of meat wrapped around egg a little odd), but this cashew version was rather good. I thought the crumb could have been crispier, but the gooey egg was surprisingly nice together with the nuts. The pickled cauliflower helped to cut through the strongly flavoured kasundi and spices of the potatoes.

Also ordered was the gammon steak. The thick-cut steak made for a hearty meal, coming with baked beans, fried egg and pineapple toast. The pineapple toast was like a mini-loaf of bread with a crispy crust and light, fluffy innards.

My experiences with Ora have been pleasant so far; I should really try to revisit in a different season!
