Nshry, Albert Park

Today Nshry was pretty busy, even for this late lunch hour. I suppose the nice weather – and that on the last day of winter! – drew the crowds out to enjoy the beach setting. Noting the busyness of the cafe (particularly of the coffee queue) I expected a longer wait than usual for my umami burger to arrive. It took over half an hour for my burger to come, which is longer than I thought, and though other people had ordered different burgers it was a bit frustrating to see that patrons who were seated much later were receiving their burgers earlier.

Onto the main event! Umami burgers were flying out of the kitchen today, and it’s made up of a medium-rare wagyu and angus pattie, umami rub, brown mushroom sauce, gruyere, caramelised onions, oven-roasted tomato, parmesan crisp on a brioche bun. This is accompanied by beer battered chips, coleslaw, cornichons and a trio of dipping sauces. Only a small part was medium-rare; the rest was well done and a bit dry. The concept of the burger was interesting and all the components of the burger did indeed sound delicious together, but in the end it was unfortunately let down by the pattie. The chips were rather good though, especially with the sauces.  It was very difficult to get the staff’s attention, and I also had to request the menu, water and the bill multiple times. The staff looked run off their feet so perhaps I caught them on a bad day. The largely Asian-inspired menu does offer things a little out of the ordinary, so is likely to be a good option for people wanting something different and to enjoy the lovely view.
