Nama Nama, Melbourne CBD

I’d heard that the udon served at Nama Nama are handmade and have been wanting to visit for a while.

I chose the pork udon, whilst mum had a bento.

The udon noodles, while not as good as they are in Japan, were smooth and slightly chewy. I was surprised that the quail egg was slightly runny, meaning they used fresh eggs rather than canned ones.

The components mum picked for her bento were: Cabbage and daikon with ponzu mayo, kingfish sahimi, grilled eel onigiri, pork neck roll with sake miso flavour and a miso marinated salmon fillet. I particularly enjoyed the onigiri, which may have been lightly fried. It reminded me of fried rice.

I’m still not sure if I will return because of the price, but it was a good experience. If I do come back I’d like to try the Nama Katsu Bun, which has a crumbed patty, tonkatsu sauce and a steamed egg in (what looks like) pressed white bread. Apparently it’s quite popular.
