N2 Extreme Gelato, Fitzroy

The first time I heard of N2 Extreme Gelato was when I walked past the Sydney store back in August last year. Whilst I don’t usually eat ice cream, I do find gelato more appealing and it also looked like an interesting concept. Mum and I thought we’d go back to visit after dinner, but unfortunately we completely forgot about it even through we took the same route back to the hotel.

Since then I discovered that it was actually quite famous and highly rated, so I was kicking myself for not going while I had the chance. That was until I read about N2 opening up a new store on Brunswick St in Fitzroy a few weeks ago.

Although it wasn’t a particularly wonderful day for ice cream today, their popular creme brulee is on the menu again this week so I thought I’d better catch it while I can.

N2 has a number of nice, casual seating areas littered with large fruit and vegetable plushies and astroturf. At the moment, the menu isn’t as extensive as it’s parent store in Sydney, but while I was there, the most commonly ordered flavour was the creme brulee.

The ~300mL cup of gelato was $6 and had a creamy-coloured vanilla base, with a layer of caramelised sugar on top. The consistency was lovely and smooth and the flavour of the gelato was good. It started melting pretty quickly though, so not the sort of thing you could easily eat while walking down the street and getting distracted.
