My uni friends found out about my birthday so we headed off to Meshiya for a belated birthday celebration. As much as I like oyakodon, some photos on circluating around the internet showed it to not be as runny as I liked. I also didn’t feel like eating a lot, especially because I knew there would be cake, so I got the Mini Sushi Don ($14.8), with a choice of salmon, kingfish or assorted fish. There’s also a regular sized chirashi don for $18.80.

My assorted sushi don arrived with salmon, tuna, kingfish, and some pickled-tasted other fish that I couldn’t identify. The rice wasn’t too bad, but I still haven’t had rice as good as Takumi‘s since visiting there. The best fish was definitely the salmon, which was very smooth and almost melt-in-your mouth, despite the fact that it wasn’t salmon belly. Should’ve gone for the all-salmon option.

Chicken Okonomiyaki $14.5

One of my friends kindly offered to treat me to my choice of okonomiyaki. I picked chicken, mainly because the seafood was $4 more. Part of my fear of ordering the pricier seafood version was that there would only be a sprinkle of seafood in it. I don’t think I’ve had chicken okonomiyaki before because I usually go for seafood. There wasn’t actually a lot of cabbage, but there were a lot of chicken pieces, which was refreshing. It tasted pretty good; miles ahead of the O-Bento version, which is terrible (not worth it even though it’s 1/5th of the price).
