Mamak, Melbourne CBD

Mamak is best known for its roti, but today I thought I’d go for the lamb murtabak (with cabbage, egg and onion $12). I was told there’d be a 15 minute wait for the murtabak, but it came about 12 minutes after I placed my order. It was served with two curry sauces – fish and veggie – and a dollop of sambal. I haven’t had a proper murtabak for a long time, so I don’t remember what they’d supposed to taste like. The fish curry had a very strong taste of…something…that I didn’t like, so I didn’t eat much of it; the veggie curry was much better. The sambal was ok, but didn’t have a particularly strong flavour or chilli kick. Sadly, without the addition of the sambal and curry, the murtabak just tasted like a lamb omelette and I couldn’t taste many spices in it.
