Mackenzie’s Bar and Grill, Lake Tekapo

We decided to share two mains for dinner, though it was getting quite late so we probably should have shared one dish and maybe an entrée. From the menu I chose The High Country and dad picked the lamb shanks.

Lamb Shanks w. Sweet Corn Potato Mash And Rosemary Jus ($25.80)

Dad’s ‘lamb shanks with sweet corn potato mash and rosemary jus’ tasted about as average as it sounded on paper, but I did enjoy my dish.

The High Country came with 100g venison and medallions of beef and lamb with seasonal vegetables and kumara wedges as sides ($34+2 for the sweet potato wedges). We weren’t told which meat was which, so we had to guess. The mushroom & onion gravy they supplied was like typical school/church camp gravy, so I didn’t eat it. The meat was nice and there was also the novelty of cooking it to our own liking on the hot stones. The crispy and fluffy sweet potato wedges were also really good too.
