Izakaya Chuji, Melbourne CBD

I bought a voucher which entitled me to a custom bento, including miso (worth $14.95) and a soft drink. I was given a tick sheet for my order, similar to the lunch special sheet at Darac. My selection was sashimi, agedashi tofu and cold soba salad. I wasn’t given a drinks menu but I knew they had Ramune and Calpico, which were the most interesting and also the most expensive drinks on the list (worth $5.50-6). Ramune is a lemonade sort of drink, whilst Calpico has a bit of milk in it, a bit like Yakult or the Korean drink, Milkis. I chose Calpico.

The agedashi tofu was fresh but the skin was soggy. I received 5 pieces of salmon sashimi, which tasted OK. I was surprised at how much soba there was. The soba was cooked well and there was a bit of broth underneath, however, the flavour of the broth was so subtle I could barely taste anything so I seasoned it myself with some soy. Overall, the deal was pretty good value for $9.
