29 Sep Gami Chicken & Beer, Hawthorn
There are many Korean Fried Chicken chains all around Melbourne, but Gami is one of my favourites. Gami is Korean for “beautiful taste”, and what a beautiful taste indeed.
Of course, KFC of the Korean kind is the feature, and the Unmissable Chicken was a great way to taste multiple best-selling flavours of Korean Fried Chicken on offer. Each flavour is delectable, though my favourite still has to be the Sweet Chilli. With the crunchy exterior, and tender and juicy interior, it’s KFC done well.
There’s a great range of other dishes to indulge in too: the Prawn Mandu are crunchy and almost bursting with filling, the Japchae has a lovely smokiness to it and is not too sweet, and we loved the textural contrast of the Fried Rice Cake from the deep-frying.
Chewy Hotteok and Gami K-Donuts are the perfect way to finish an enjoyable meal in this cheerful, colourful and casual setting. Hotteok were one of the street foot highlights from my trip to South Korea, and I’m glad there’s another place to get them here.
Gami has come a long way in the last 17 years, and with 37 stores across Australia and 26 locations in Victoria alone, you likely won’t have to travel too far for your Gami fix. With value meals like fried drumsticks and chips, bibimbap, and gochujang chicken (most of which are under $14!), it can be quite budget friendly too.
Disclaimer: I was invited to Gami as a guest, however, opinions expressed here are purely my own, and are based on my experience at the time
