First launched on the Gold Coast in 2015, there are now Brooklyn Depot sites in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. With a menu inspired by Old Brooklyn in New York, it offers a huge range of burgers, hot dogs, desserts and other fried dishes.

Cheeseburger Empanadas are as they sound on paper – they’re cheeseburgers in empanada form, filled with grass fed beef, American cheese, pickles and onion, fried till crisp and served with special sauce. Warming comfort foods include the Lobster Mac & Cheese with three cheese sauce, lobster meat and gremolata breadcrumb topping, and the Shrimp & Grits Tacos which sees fried tortillas wrapped around cheesy polenta, prawns, smoked paprika and capsicum sauce.

The Chicken n’ Waffles are a sweet and savoury number with maple cream syrup and bubble-shaped but solidly filled red velvet waffles, and savoury crispy southern fried chicken. The chicken stays crispy for a long time, and is plenty juicy. Similar in flavour to KFC, but better, and the skin isn’t saturated with oil. Another sweet and savoury combo is found in the French Toast Grilled Cheese – thick cut sweet French toast with cheese and maple syrup. My favourite dish though, are the Cornbeef Hash Egg Rolls – big spring rolls with very flavoursome and juicy cornbeef, potatoes and onions wrapped and formed into jumbo spring rolls, served with a tangy Russian dressing.

Finish with a rich Caramel Pecan Chocolate Brownie, pecans, ice cream and salted caramel sauce if you want to continue with the decadence.

Brooklyn Depot is a great large and casual venue to enjoy drinks and flavoursome American-style food.
