Sugar Fougasse from Bergese

Sugar Fougasse from Bergese

There were many bakeries in St-Remy-De-Provence that were under the Festival des Pains banner. The first thing I bought was a fougasse sucre (€1.80?) from Bergese. It was a bit like donut dough, but a bit lighter. I think fougasse is normally a flat bread, but this one was quite puffy.

Further down rue Carnot we came another bakery/patisserie where mum bought a croque with almonds and pistachios (€2) and a sacristain (€2). The almond and pistachio mixture was slightly sweet, though not overly so and was quite good value for €2. The sacristain was like thick, twisted puff pastry topped with almonds. This bakery also had savoury fougasse, including an olive one.
