Bistro Guillaume, Southbank

We wanted to go out for a nice dinner for A2’s birthday and settled on Bistro Guillame. Mum and I have also been wanting to try it.

A2: Roasted duck breast, carrot and orange purée, caramelised endive and radish salad
Mum: Steak frites with béarnaise sauce (Rangers Valley sirloin, 300 days grain fed)
Dad: Chargrilled King Salmon with fennel purée and a herb salad
Me: Venison tenderloin with beetroot and horseradish

Dad didn’t like his salmon; A2 tends to say almost everything is nice, and this was no exception; mum’s beef was very cooked very well and the béarnaise sauce was smooth and creamy. My venison was also cooked nicely. The sauce had a strong beetroot flavour and a lot of acidity, possibly from wine. I found it slightly overpowering for the meat and didn’t end up using much of it.

I don’t think anyone was raving about their meal (although we all agreed that the ratatouille was good), but I’d still be keen to try their roast chicken, which I’ve heard is one of their best dishes.
