Bibelot, South Melbourne

Bibelot: a small object of curiosity, beauty or desire. There are plenty of beautiful small objects here, though they’re not ones you’d admire with your eyes only. Bibelot is an offshoot of Chez Dre, a café whose desserts were so popular that the owners decided it was time to expand.

As a dessert boutique, Bibelot includes a patisserie, gelateria, coffee bar and chocolate shop. Today’s a time for celebration, and instead of marking the occasion with a birthday cake, we order a Gourmandise Board to indulge in together at home.

On today’s Gourmandaise Board theres a selection of nine items. There’s a Japanese-inspired Green Tea Dome with adzuki beans, muscavado crème and black sesame brûlée, toasted sesame crunch, green tea chiffon and green tea mousse, and the Hazelnut-Praline Crunch, which has hazelnut dacquoise, gianduja mousse, hazelnut & chocolate crumble and chocolate crémeux. In a striking, vibrant yellow, is the Mango, Yuzu and Coconut with caramelised coconut crémeux, yuzu crème, peanut brittle, mango mousse, coconut dacquois.

Also on the board is a blueberry cheesecake, chocolate fondant, chocolate Chantilly, green tea sable, rose-raspberry macaron and bonbons. Though everything is delicious, highlights for me included the not-as-sweet Green Tea Dome and the zingy mango dome.

Bibelot’s Gourmandise Board is the perfect way to have a taste of a variety of their beautiful petit gateau in bite-sized form.
