The Workers Kitchen, Fitzroy

The Worker's Club

Music venue and pub The Workers Club is also home to The Workers Kitchen, which takes care of the food side of things. Recently stepping in is Mathew Zolli, of Faraday’s Cage and Tramway Hotel. The menu still has the pub classics of parmas, steaks and burgers, but now also includes more vegetarian options and small plates.

It’s a pub, so of course there’s alcohol. For drinks, there’s a list of wines, craft beers, and cocktails, or you could warm up with some sweet mulled cider.

The Worker's Kitchen (25) Fried buffalo cauliflower with ranch dressing ($10)

The small plates are perfect for drinks and sharing. Jerk spiced chicken ribs are juicy, pairing well with the coconut lime dipping sauce. My personal favourite is the fried buffalo cauliflower with ranch dressing. With a crispy exterior, the cauliflower is so soft and creamy inside it’s almost like we’re eating potatoes instead, making them a moreish bite.

The Worker's Kitchen - Freddy's Pork Ribs - Rack of BBQ pork ribs with chips and house salad ($25)

For mains we go with a rack of Freddy’s Pork Ribs with chips. Although slathered in a sweet BBQ sauce, the meat itself is not quite succuluent on this occassion. We do happily find though, sweet potato chips mixed in with the regular ones. A plus for lovers of sweet potato.

The Worker's Kitchen - The Rob Roy - 150g beef pattie, egg, lettuce, tomato, onion, beetroot, bacon, pickles, cheese, mustard, tomato sauce ($15)

Having spent time as head chef at The Tramway Hotel, a pub well known for its burgers, Zolli couldn’t help but instill some of his expertise into the Workers Kitchen new menu. The Rob Roy is a solid Australian beef burger with tomato, egg, onion, beetroot, bacon and pickles. The patty is a little crumbly, but the melted cheese, mustard and tomato sauce helps moisten and meld everything together between the Babka bakery bun.

The Worker's Club

Whether you’re here for something to drink, a bite to eat or a gig to catch, The Workers Kitchen has some decent pub grub to keep you going.
