Who’s Harry?, Hawthorn

It was set to be a very hot Spring day today, so before we became too lethargic to venture outside, mum and I popped into Who’s Harry for an early lunch. When I first walked in I was surprised at how cosy, but small it seemed to be. After it was pointed out that there was more seating out the back we settled at a large communal table there. The tables outdoors were quite popular, probably because Melbourne hasn’t seen this much nice sunshine for a while, but we decided to stick to the cooler climate indoors.

We purposely timed our visit for 11:30am so that we could pick from both the breakfast and lunch options, though we both ended up choosing lunch items anyway.

Mum’s choice was the open sandwich with marinated scotch fillet, caramelised onion, beetroot relish, rocket, Noissette Turkish bun, fried egg and beer-battered chips. It was a nice dish and the beetroot relish helped keep things fresh. You also can’t beat a runny egg!

I had the panko-crumbed wasabi chicken breast with crunchy Asian salad, Noisette brioche bun, wasabi mayonnaise and beer-battered chips. This was even better than the open steak sandwich because of that lovely wasabi mayonnaise and tender chicken. I wouldn’t mind if the wasabi flavour was a bit stronger, or maybe having a bit more of the mayonnaise, but overall it was very enjoyable.

Those beer-battered chips were amazingly crunchy and delicious. I was quite full after the burger, but couldn’t help clearing the whole plate. They were the nicest chips I’ve had in a long, long time.
