19 Aug The Penny Drop, Box Hill
After having dropped into Box Hill over 2 years ago, The Penny Drop is still going strong.
Their Loaded Chicken Waffle has a blend of both sweet and savoury flavours. Tasty fried chicken ribs are piled onto the moist sweet potato waffle and powdered manuka honey is scattered around the the plate underneath. Vibrant purple pickled vegetables inject some tang to balance the sweetness.
Instead of bread, their version of a Benedict sees fried soft shell crab, poached eggs and kimchi hollandaise matched up with spring onion pancakes. The pancakes are rolled around a refreshing bean shoot salad.
Sweet tooths may like to order the Matcha Pancakes with coconut gel, yuzu pearl, matcha ganache, chocolate soil, pure maple and fresh fruit. Surprisingly a fair amount of sweetness doesn’t just come from the maple syrup, but also from the pancakes themselves.
The Penny Drop is as popular as ever, and the beautiful interior design and interesting food menu continue to impress.
