12 Dec Sardi, Hawthorn Take 3
It’s now summer, and time for new dishes to hit the menu at Sardi. There are a few additions, but three in particular catch our eye, and there’s something new for everyone.
The more traditional cafe-goer gets a new Eggs Benny. Ham hock, broccolini and eggs are piled on top of toasted sliced of brioche and slathered in an apple cider and asparagus hollandaise. It’s a tasty and different take on the benedict.
I love how cafes are embracing Asian flavours more and more, and here Sardi is introducing fluffy bao, filled with pulled pork. Extra kick comes from the addition of kimchi, also made in house and tweaked to complement the flavours of the pork. The Asian marinade used in the slow-cooking process tastes rather similar to a braised pork dish mum makes, so no surprise I fell in love with it.
Finally, sweet tooths receive the Oreo Waffle. The thick and crispy waffle has been quartered, half the pieces being coated in a glistening layer of dark chocolate. Both vanilla ice cream and Oreo mascarpone are provided on the plate, allowing us to mix and match our flavours to taste, and fresh berries bring pops of freshness and colour. Chocolate and waffles? Bring it on.
Sardi is still a local favourite, and seasonal revisions to the menu will keep both old and new fans well satisfied.
