21 Jan Pufflets, Melbourne CBD
Since last year, you might have noticed a shopfront full of smiley balls right near Queen Vic Market. Inside, you’ll find Pufflets, a cosy little shop serving bubbly Hong Kong style egg waffles with interesting flavour combinations, many with a slight Malaysian slant – durian anyone?
Though there are quite a number of set items, you can also create a customised waffle, and the fish-shaped taiyaki are also on the too. I’m very much into crunchy things, so the variety of textures in the Milo Beast was right up my alley. The Milo-flavoured puffle comes with dark choc chips, cookies and cream gelato, butter cream cracker, giant toasted marshmallow, Milo soil, and a drizzle of chocolate for good measure. The Duchess of Earl has slightly lighter flavours with its salted caramel gelato, caramelised cookie crumbs, French palmier biscuit and Earl Grey drizzle, which tastes unmistakably like tea.
One of Pufflets’ new additions is Cereal Soft Serve. Pick one of two soft serve flavours (at the moment, vanilla or cookies n cream), and a selection of cereals to churn up. It’s volume based, so you can choose as many different ingredients as you want to fill the cup – mix and match to your heart’s content. It’s a great concept for those that constantly need different things to try.
