09 May Munich Brauhaus, South Wharf
The large and boisterous Munich Brauhaus has started a new menu for winter. Before launching into the large proteins, there are smaller bites like the thick smoked trout and beetroot dip that scoops up nicely by the rye crisps, or the Mac n Cheese Balls with blue cheese mayo, that thankfully for me, are not too strong on the blue cheese flavour.
The long-standing favourites are still here, the Crispy Pork Knuckle for example, is still a giant, moist hunk of meat with crunchy crackling, mash and sauerkraut. Less traditional dishes are up for order too, like lamp rump, and spice-rubbed Angus sirloin, which are cooked perfectly, as ordered. Various pickled vegetables are provided as a nice interlude to all the meat. If you’re still wanting sides, the broccoli with roasted garlic is simple but very tasty. People wanting carbs can munch on crispy sweet potato fries and duck fat roasted potatoes.
It may not be German, but the NY-style cheesecake with salted caramel sauce and buttery biscuit base is a rich dessert to indulge in if you’ve still got room in your stomach.
Munich Brauhaus still has its huge serves, and plenty of drinks to go around. Visit in a big group, and you’re set for a good time.
