The lockdowns of 2020 last gave the team at Mr Joe an opportunity for a rethink of their offering, and the result of that is a brand new pan-Asian menu and concept.

The seafood is handled wonderfully. Perfectly cooked seared scallops are teamed up with a spicy pumpkin cream, hazelnuts and roasted kipfler. Scallops and nuts aren’t a combination I’ve tried before, and I’m glad to have been introduced to it. Nuts and seafood come together again with the Grilled Salmon with yuzu mousseline cream, finger lime, buttered macadamia. It’s zesty and perfectly salted, and we enjoy the bite that the macadamia affords.

The Goulburn Valley pork with caponata, prosciutto, pistachio and gruyere is full of forward flavours. Confit Duck Leg Dauphinoise also comes with some fig jam on the plate, which helps cut through the richness of the other elements.

Our tasting of Mr Joe’s new menu highlighted well-handled and well-seasoned ingredients, put together in interesting combinations. It’s the type of food I’d happily return to enjoy again.
