07 Nov Monroe, Richmond
The team behind Miss Frank and have opened a new venue in Richmond. Named after the one and only Marilyn Monroe, Richmond’s newest cafe is similarly classy; Monroe is a glitz and glam café decked out with plenty of marble, woods and brass fixtures.
You might recognise the Ruby Scrambled, similar to what you’d find at their other cafes. Chilli and coriander scrambled eggs are piled onto on sourdough together with crispy shallots and bacon. Charred corn and green nam jim add an element of difference to the dish.
The Poached Salmon Fillet comes with baton-shaped potato rostis and asparagus, roasted cherry tomatoes, baby cos lettuce, tomato and chorizo crumb. The fish needs a bit more seasoning, but the tangy lemon and caper sauce, and herbs in the rosti help make up for it somewhat.
The Banana Roti looks a little like a curry puff. The roti forms a parcel around the banana, then fried till crisp. It’s not super sweet, even with the mascarpone and biscuit crumb.
With a mixture of clean and not-so-clean, the menu should please most visitors, and there’s no denying that Monroe is a cafe where you enjoy a bit of the lavish lifestyle over brunch.
