08 Oct Matsumoto, Brunswick East
In amongst the great variety of restaurants on this section of Lygon St, you’ll find a warm and friendly Japanese eatery, Matsumoto.
The sushi bar serves up delights like Aburi Salmon and Unagi Sushi, both cooked beautifully, with the Unagi boasting a tasty glaze. Also delicious is the Spicy Salmon Roll – Inside out rolls with fresh salmon, cucumber, avocado and spicy mayo.
The lightly seared Yuzu Salmon Tataki has a tangy Japanese pomelo dressing, and the Nasu Dengaku is tasty and tender, breaking apart easily with the gentle use of a spoon.
The rainy weather calls for some noodles, and the slippery Nabeyaki Udon comes in a piping hot broth with chicken, vegetables, poached egg and a tempura prawn. Perfectly comforting.
We finish with a trio of bite sized Daifuku, each with a different filling and accompanied by ice cream and fruit.
For a casual Japanese feed on Lygon St, particularly if you’re after sushi, Matsumoto might be the place to be.
