05 Jul Mama Rumaan, Docklands
It seems like an unlikely location in which to find flavoursome Middle Eastern cuisine, but Mama Rumaan commands this Docklands warehouse space and turns it into a food-filled oasis. Bright and colourful Egyptian Falafel, Lamb Kibbeh, and crispy Fried Cauliflower are great ways to kick off a meal at Mama Rumaan. These tasty bites whet the appetite for more, and you can’t go wrong with mezze dips and pita either. The Ablama, baby zucchini stuffed with lamb and nuts, have homely flavours and are perfect for the windy day we’re having today.
The Qouzi is a hearty dish of slow-cooked lamb shoulder, pomegranate, traditional herbs and spices, wheat and chickpeas. The small serve is plenty for us, given the variety of ingredients and amount of protein provided in the dish. It’s a delicious dish that can be enjoyed on its own, or perhaps as a accompaniment to other proteins like the Djerj w’Toum – chicken, spices and garlic cumin potatoes.
Their desserts are sweet, as predicted, but the smooth and creamy Knafeh surprises as the favourite.
If you’re after a hearty meal with bold flavours, don’t be afraid to venture down to the Docklands. Mama Rumaan has what you need.
