27 Aug Lux Foundry, Brunswick
The ever-popular Lux Foundry has started a new menu for spring. The large warehouse space has plenty of seating both inside and out, though it’s sometimes still busy enough to require a bit of a wait during peak times. Fortunately it’s possible to book a table.
We love the Vietnamese flavours present in the Crispy Poached Eggs, which come with chilli caramel jam and Asian salad. The chilli caramel jam is flavoursome, and the crispiness of the egg coating is a delight to bite into.
Soft Shell Crab comes with a green papaya salad, coconut waffle, and nuoc mam dressing. The waffles have a distinguishable coconutty flavour, though they’re a little dry. The dish as a whole lacks punch compared to the eggs, which could perhaps be remedied with more of the tangy nuoc mam dressing.
We come to the sweets, and the Brioche French Toast is one of the best French Toasts I’ve tried yet. There’s a wonderful balance of flavours from the delicious espresso mascarpone, dark chocolate crumb, poached spiced pear, fresh berries, and salted toffee. It’s not overly sweet, especially since the salted toffee can be added to taste. The pear is poached to perfection and is cut easily with a spoon, and the flavour of the spices is found throughout, not just on the outside of the fruit. So. Good.
With its mixture of solid classics, signatures, and seasonal additions, Lux Foundry is sure to keep the crowds coming.
