The inviting frontage of ISIT Cafe is rather inconspicuous, blending in with the terrace shops surrounding it. It’s also larger than it might first seem. The cafe extends a far way back from the street and has a sunny courtyard at the rear.

Their thick and mildly sweet Acai Super Smoothie is made with acai, blueberry, banana, and milk, and I love the extra texture from the nutty granola sprinkled on top. There’s also the lighter and more refreshing Dragon Fruit Super Smoothie with dragonfruit, pineapple, passionfruit, banana, soy milk and coconut.

As well as the larger dishes, there’s a selection of delicious sounding toasties filled with things like Spicy Mac n Cheese, Kimchi and Provolone, or you can cheese out on the Fondue with bechamel and gruyere.

Chicken Katsu Burger - Cornflake and macadamia crumbed chicken, green mango slaw, miso mayo, pickled cucumber ($17 + $4 chips)

The Kimchi Reuben uses sliced pastrami sourced locally from Prahran market, provolone, house-made sesame mustard, wombok kimchi, and gherkins with a charcoal bun. The tangy gherkins and slight bitterness from the kimchi provide plenty of interest to the stack of pastrami, though it’s not quite as tasty as the Chicken Katsu Burger. The fillet of cornflake and macadamia crumbed chicken is teamed up with green mango slaw, miso mayo, and pickled cucumber. The burger is larger than the norm, and the chicken, which is very juicy, is delicious when clothed in its nutty crunchy crumb. The mayo could have done with a bit more of a miso hit, but the burger was still incredibly satisfying.

Sriracha Benedict - Quinoa fritters, salmon, crispy shallots, poached eggs, sriracha hollandaise, finger lime, betel leaf ($17.50)

The highlight of the meal is the Sriracha Benedict. The dense and cake-like patty-shaped quinoa fritters are topped with pretty-in-pink house-cured salmon, crispy shallots, poached eggs, sriracha hollandaise and chilli threads. There’s also a tangy lime and tangerine emulsion, and a Southeast Asian spin to it with the use of kaffir lime. The crisp finger lime bursts dotted around the plate have a bitterness, similar to pomelo, that is a sensation on the tastebuds and further brightens up the dish.

ISIT once served stock standard and on-trend brunch dishes, but have now started getting more creative. Thank goodness, because their own take on cafe food is definitely worth trying.
