Huxtaburger, Melbourne CBD

I went to Curtin House rooftop in the hopes that Beatbox Kitchen Rooftop was still open, but at the moment the rooftop is home to All Day Burgers. I’ve decided that my taste buds aren’t all that excited by beef, mustard and pickles so if I eat a burger like that I have to know it’s something special before I try it. It seemed to be quite popular, but because I didn’t know anything about All Day Burger at that stage, I headed off to have Huxtaburger’s Denise instead.

There was a large throng of people waiting for their orders, most of which were takeaway so I was able to find a seat easily. I chose one towards the inside of the building because there was better air circulation and I didn’t want to smell like food when I left. I still got my order in about 15 minutes because of the mass production of burgers going on.

The Denise (the hot one) is the Huxtaburger (beef pattie, mustard, mayo, tomato sauce, tomato, cheese, lettuce, pickles) + jalapeno and sriracha mayo. I opted to have the mustard on the side instead of inside so I could see what it was like both ways. The mustard did make the flavours more interesting and gave it some kick, but I think I (narrowly) preferred the Denise without. Although it was spicy, I didn’t find particularly hot. My nose normally runs pretty easily even if I don’t feel like my mouth is on fire, but in this case it wasn’t running at all.

The part I liked most about the burger was the Asian-style bun, which was actually pretty sweet, and very crunchy. It was a tad oily though, probably because it had been toasted on the flat iron with a lot of oil. I think I liked the Denise more than I would have liked the Huxtaburger. The pattie was not as tasty or juicy as the one from Mr Burger. If I could combine the bun from Huxtaburger with the pattie from Mr Burger I’d be pretty happy.
