Dish and Spoon

Run by a husband and wife team, Dish & Spoon is a warm and friendly cafe that’s found in the surburban streets of Camberwell. Dish & Spoon is larger than it might appear from the outside, and the dog-friendly courtyard out the back increases their capacity for the large peak-hour crowd.

The all-day menu changes seasonally, though often the crowd favourites stay in place, and those with dietary requirements have plenty of options. The thirsty are well-catered for too – the are many hot drinks and smoothies to choose from, as well as a great range of specialty coffees.

The Bomba is an amalgamation of two popular dishes on a previous menu. The crisp balls of potato are plated together with a slice of hand cut Berkshire bacon, Kurobuta chorizo crumb, oozy poached eggs, tomato and tarragon hollandaise and spiced pepper puree. It’s a tasty and hearty option that goes down very well.

New on the menu is the Aromatic Poached Chicken. Thinly shaved slivers of green papaya and cucumber are rolled around a mixture of chicken, calypso mango, macadamia, chilli, coriander and a lime and coconut lemongrass dressing. The textural dish is full of refreshing, south-east Asian flavours, and a little hit of chilli excites the tastebuds even further.

Dish & Spoon’s Pistachio and Olive Oil Cake is very popular – it’s not unusual for it to sell out. The cake is topped with vanilla-braised rhubarb, and accompanied by burnt orange gel, orange segments, pistachio granola and spiced orange labneh. It has a little bit of chew on the inside from the nuts, as well as a crisp crust, and despite the way it may look, it’s actually not too sweet. Definitely recommended.

Dish & Spoon really left a positive impression, both for its interesting menu and wonderful execution. For something truly different in your brunch experience, Dish & Spoon is the place to be.
