D House Cafe, Melbourne CBD

Even though I walk past, or at least look at, this shopfront at least once a week, it took me years to realise that the name of this restaurant had changed from Dessert House Eatery to D House Cafe. In fact, I didn’t discover this until today, much to my embarrassment. I didn’t have a chance to peruse the menu too carefully, but from what I could see the menu was still similar to what it was many years ago, which was when I last dined here.

Deciding to try something I hadn’t had before, I ordered the House Special Pork Chop on rice ($9). After placing my order I noticed there was a poster advertising an all-day special of the same dish but in a bowl for $6.90. I don’t know what the difference between the two was, other than different serving ware. Perhaps the bowl version had a smaller serving.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce so I didn’t have much of it; it was maybe slightly too sweet. I also didn’t realise it would be lightly floured (totally my fault for being ignorant and also not asking what the dish actually was), but the pork chop was tender and was seasoned nicely.

D House Cafe is still good choice for quick and tasty Cantonese food.
