A local favourite for eat-in, takeaway and delivery pizza, Chatty Vespa popped up in 2015 and has been serving loyal customers with their handmade pizzas ever since. The pizza dough at Chatty Vespa is made fresh every few hours, and is topped with free-range and chemical-free local ingredients.
We snack on starters of cheesy garlic pizza and foccacia pizza before moving on with mains. The chunky Spaghetti Bolognese and the nutty and creamy pesto penne are tried. The highlight turns out to be the fettucine and its fresh and simple Napoli sauce.
Of course, we try a few of their pizzas too: the Hot Yank with tomato, cheese, salami, cherry tomato, goats cheese, and fresh basil, and the Bocc On, Baby with tomato, cheese, cherry tomato, oregano, bocconcini, and basil. The crusts are crunchy, but some pizzas are a bit oily and soggy, though there is a thick 2-3mm layer of cheese for the bases to hold. My favourite is the Moroccan Chick with cheese, harissa chicken, zucchini, peppers, hummus, harissa aioli, and coriander. It’s spicy, but there are blob of hummus to tame the heat.
We finish with an incredibly decadent dessert pizza of Nutella, marshmallows, peanut butter, doughnuts, ice cream and the unconventional addition of bacon. The base is crispier than the other pizzas, probably a good thing as it has to support the heavy pile of toppings. I personally find the bacon a bit odd, but it’s inventive and contributes to the sweet and salty aspects of the pizza.
