Brenton Lang (Rustica Sourdough), Tristan White (ex-Head Chef of Ladro and Touchwood), and Matt Vero (Coin Laundry, Tall Timber, Touchwood, The Marquis of Lorne Hotel) have combined forces to set up Rustica Canteen. It takes on an industrial theme, going for a darker colour scheme with plenty of timber. Its drawcards are the delectable pastries a-la Rustica Sourdough on display at the counter, fresh bread available for purchase, and of course being a 'canteen', the food. Sandwiches will change every now and then, and will be filled with plenty...

Smith & Daughters took the vegan dining scene by storm, being incredibly popular by both vegans and non-vegans alike. Earlier this year Shannon Martinez and Mo Wyse opened up Smith & Deli a block away to cater more for the casual day-time crowd, though it doesn't close until 7pm so it's perfect for grabbing a thing or two on the way home. There are ready-to-go meals like salads, pizza, lasagne and pies, and vegan sweets that are sitting temptingly next to the coffee counter. Its impressive selection of sandwiches...

The Festival Artisan Bakery & Bar was a pop-up set up specially for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Over 17 days, famous bakers from both Australia and overseas came in to oversee the production of baked goods for us to devour, and enjoy a selection of salads, rolls and boards with wine and coffee. Justin Gellatly is from...

Aioli ($2)[/caption] We picked up 3 punnets of strawberries for $5, tried samples of smoked salmon, caramel-coated nuts, Christmas cake and dips. For brunch we tried a $2 taster of smoked eel with aioli on a...

A1 Bakery is a very popular, yet unassuming Lebanese bakery/grocery store. I ordered a meat pizza and baklava to take away. Lamb mince with lemon and chilli was spread all over the crunchy pizza base, making for a tasty and rather filling lunch. The baklava was crispy but not overpoweringly sweet and didn't bleed syrup every time I took a bite - one of...
