01 Aug Casa Tajine, Carlton
You won’t find many Moroccan restaurants in Melbourne at the moment, so Casa Tagine comes as a breath of fresh air. The menu varies slightly day to day, but you’re sure to find a selection of small bites, soups, and of course, tagines.
Our visit kicks off with two heartwarming soups – Moroccan Harira with Lamb, and my personal favourite, the Moroccan Lentil Soup – followed by piping hot and crunchy Tunisian Brika (malsouka) stuffed with tuna, parmesan, parsley, capers and egg. Lamb Mandi Rice is a substantial meal full of flavoursome spices, and our choice of the tagines tonight is the Chicken with Preserved Lemon, which brings the feeling of comforting home cooking.
We finish on a fairly sweet note with a slice of Middle Eastern Basbousa, which has a textural crumb, and slightly crisp top. Perfect with a cup of mint tea.
Their function rooms upstairs cater to both large bookings, and smaller groups looking for a relaxing space to lounge in private.
