28 Dec My Other Brother, Camberwell
My Other Brother has undergone a light refurb and menu refresh since my last visit. There’s new tables and fencing outside, and a fresh pink and green theme, with awnings to match.
Many of their previously popular dishes have remained on the menu, but we go for the newer dishes today. The Fried Cauliflower Braised Lamb salad has a huge serve of lamb, but a little light on cauliflower. The pomegranate gives the dish that needed pop when there’s this much protein on one plate.
In this post-Christmas feast period, the Salmon Chakra Bowl is the perfect cleaner option. The bowl is filled with salmon sashimi cubes, avocado, pickled ginger, pickled red cabbage, carrot, mango, alfafa, shichimi, wasabi peas, soy, sriracha mayo and black sesame on rice. To be honest, when I first read the description I had my doubts about the addition of mango, but I was pleased to find that it provides a pleasing, refreshing flavour to the dish. We also enjoy the nice crunch and sinus-opening kick from wasabi peas.
MOB’s new dessert is the Nutella Hong Kong Waffles with vanilla mascarpone, banana brulee, strawberries, blueberries, pistachios, and raspberry puree. The waffles are slightly crisp on the outside, and although the bubbles are solidly filled, the extra batter helps to create a better ratio with the Nutella. Including more raspberry puree would also create more balance with all that rich chocolate.
There are many cafes in the Camberwell area, and MOB continues to be a reliable option.
