15 Mar Annam, Melbourne CBD
Jerry Mai’s newest project is Annam – a place that showcases dishes inspired by the authentic Vietnamese flavours she grew up with, as well as ones that highlight her flair as a chef.
Flavour-packed Sarsparilla Braised Ox Tail Dumplings are a must order. Other small plates include the finger-licking good Lamb Ribs with Tamarind Caramel, and fried, crispy Chicken Wings with sweet and sticky nuoc mam and a good peppercorn kick.
The larger plate of Coconut Roasted Milawa Chicken is delicious and juicy. It comes with salt, pepper and lemon so you can make a DIY dipping sauce. I have to admit that I’m not a fried ice cream person, but the Waffle Coated Fried Ice Cream with salted caramel is my favourite of the desserts we try today.
Annam has also introduced ‘Office rice and noodles’ – their express lunch offering. Within 15 minutes of ordering you can find yourself tucking into dishes like Wok Tossed Pasta with beef, cai lan, or an ‘Asian Spaghetti Bolognaise’ with spicy pork, tofu, and thick noodles.
Whether you’re coming in for a quick lunch, or for the expanded menu at dinnertime, the hands on food at Annam has something tasty in store.
Disclaimer: I was invited to Annam as a guest, however, opinions expressed here are purely my own, and are based on my experience at the time
