12 Dec 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar, South Yarra
It’s perhaps no surprise that 48h Pizza e Gnocchi Bar has a huge variety of gnocchi and pizza on the menu. In case you’re wondering, 48h is the minimum rising time they’ve set for their pizza dough, which creates a lighter result. There aren’t currently any other types of pasta, but you can choose antipasti, salads, cheese and sweets to add variety to the meal.
Mare Nostrum is a cheese lover’s dream. It’s a decadent and mouth-watering dish made up of a melted medley of cheeses and wild herbs, scooped up with focaccia.
There are three types of gnocchi available at 48h: potato, activated charcoal and prawn, all made with gluten free flour. For a minimum of four people, you can continue the cheesy good times by partaking in the ceremony of cheese wheel gnocchi (Carbone Vegetale Parmigiano Gnocchi). The whole wheel of slightly hollowed-out parmigiano cheese is brought to the table filled with charcoal gnocchi and a Sicilian cherry tomato sauce. The gnocchi is a little firmer than usual, and the parmigiano adds a bang of flavour.
Their pizzas bases are thin with a puffy crust, and are cooked in an oven imported from Italy. Tonight we try the Caserta Pizza with smoked mozzarella, homemade sausage, rapini and chilli, though the Sudtirolo and Bronte also catch our eye. The tender sausage, melted smoked mozzarella and slight hit of chilli melds with the charred flavour of the dough to create a solid pizza.
If you’re after gnocchi for dinner, you can’t beat the choice available at 48h.
