At the moment, Son in Law is perhaps most famous for its Instagrammable fairy floss drinks and desserts. Staff express their inner creativity by making the drink decorations and chocolate balls by hand. Even before the fairy floss drinks were introduced, Son in Law had a pretty tasty food menu, and thankfully that's still the case....
My Other Brother has undergone a light refurb and menu refresh since my last visit. There's new tables and fencing outside, and a fresh pink and green theme, with awnings to match....
Now about 10 months old, @ The Catch is a family run business serving your fish and chip, burger and seafood needs. Food is made fresh on the day on-site, and you can taste the difference. Items other than fish and chips include Greek Fish Cakes, with vegetables and five different types of fish inside, and Potato Cakes which have multiple layers of fresh potato that have satisfying bite and crunch....
Indian fusion is probably something you're not too familiar with, but at Fork and Fingers that's what they're known for. There are two parts to the menu: one is traditional, and the other is full of contemporary Indian fusion dishes that have come about after much experimentation. Even the background music is a sort of fusion - think Western pop covers mixed with Hindi....
Julien Moussi, of Penta, Tinker and MOB fame, just opened his latest cafe in Fitzroy. Bentwood is an appropriate name, given the site was once the address of a furniture manufacturer. The cafe is much larger than the others. The umber colour scheme meshes with exposed brick, giving it a modern-fused-with-heritage look that's quite different too....
